New York, February 11, 2026 — The Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Central Africa and Head of the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA), H.E. Ambassador Abdou Abarry, was invited on Wednesday to a briefing session with the three African members of the Security Council (A3).
This meeting took place one day after his end-of-mission debriefing with the United Nations Secretary-General, Mr. António Guterres, held on February 9, marking the conclusion of three years of service at the head of UNOCA.
During the exchanges, Ambassador Abdou Abarry reflected on the main lessons learned from his mandate, particularly his working method with the 11 countries of the Central African region, based on close engagement, listening to national stakeholders, and cooperation with regional organizations. The discussions enabled the A3 to gather useful insights on regional dynamics, as well as on the approaches favored by UNOCA to support States in their efforts toward stability, prevention, and peace consolidation.
The A3 commended the Special Representative’s availability and the importance of coordination between the Security Council and UNOCA in strengthening the United Nations’ preventive action in Central Africa. The Democratic Republic of the Congo was represented at this meeting by Ambassador Jocelyne Kabengele Lukundula.
