New York, February 16, 2026 — The Permanent Representative of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to the United Nations, H.E. Ambassador Zénon Mukongo Ngay, received his Slovak counterpart, Mr. Peter Hulényi.

Slovakia, a candidate for the Security Council for the 2028–2029 term, wishes to benefit from the experience of the DRC, which is serving as a non-permanent member from 2026 to 2027.

The two diplomats also discussed security sector reform at the Council, coordination in Geneva during the session of the Human Rights Council, as well as the visit to New York by the Slovak Minister of Foreign Affairs in July, during the Congolese presidency of the Security Council.

The DRC recalled its priorities structured around two pillars: (i) peace and security; and (ii) conflict prevention and resolution. The DRC is returning to the Council for the third time, after having previously served two terms, from 1982 to 1983 and from 1990 to 1991.
