New York, March 30, 2026 — The Permanent Representative of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the United Nations, Ambassador Zénon Mukongo Ngay, met on Monday at UN Headquarters in New York with the new Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Head of the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO), Mr. James Swan, who is expected in Kinshasa in the coming days.
The discussions focused mainly on the security situation in eastern DRC, with particular attention given to the implementation of the ceasefire, notably in light of Security Council resolutions 2773 and 2808.
During the meeting, the two officials underscored the need to strengthen cooperation between MONUSCO and the institutions of the Republic through the consolidation of existing mechanisms, while giving priority attention to the humanitarian situation.
For his part, Ambassador Zénon Mukongo Ngay reaffirmed the commitment of the Congolese Government to continue its efforts toward the restoration of peace, security, and stability in the eastern part of the country.
