Ambassadors Zénon Mukongo Ngay and Jocelyne Kabengele Lukundula, respectively Permanent Representative and Deputy Permanent Representative of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the United Nations, took part on Thursday, 30 April 2026, in New York, in the closing ceremony of the Security Council presidency held by the Kingdom of Bahrain.

Organized at United Nations Headquarters, the meeting brought together members of the Security Council as well as teams from the Security Council Affairs Division.

On this occasion, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain emphasized that the presidency of the Security Council remains, above all, a collective undertaking.

He stated that the progress achieved during the month reflected not only Bahrain’s efforts, but also the shared commitment of all Council members to the maintenance of international peace and security.

The Bahraini diplomat commended the willingness of Security Council members to engage constructively, including during the most challenging moments.

He also expressed his gratitude to the United Nations Secretariat for its support, professionalism and dedication, which were essential to the smooth conduct of the Council’s work.

As Bahrain’s presidency drew to a close, he recalled that many challenges remain on the Security Council’s agenda.

He stressed the need to strengthen cooperation, dialogue and respect for international law, in accordance with the principles of the United Nations Charter.

The Kingdom of Bahrain reaffirmed its commitment to continuing to contribute actively and responsibly to the work of the Security Council in the months ahead.

He finally paid tribute to his team for their efforts throughout the month and thanked all delegations for their cooperation and trust.

This ceremony marked the conclusion of a presidency conducted in a spirit of dialogue, inclusion and commitment to the fundamental principles of the United Nations. In handing over the presidency to China, which will preside over the Security Council in May, the Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Bahrain wished his Chinese counterpart and his team every success. Following China’s presidency, Colombia will lead the Council’s work in June, before the Democratic Republic of the Congo assumes the presidency in July.
