New York, February 17, 2026 — The Permanent Representative of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the United Nations, H.E. Ambassador Zénon Mukongo Ngay, received on Tuesday Mr. Sivanka Dhanapala, Director of the Liaison Office of the United Nations Refugee Agency.
The presentation of UNHCR’s priorities and those of the new United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, Mr. Barham Salih, was on the agenda of this meeting, which took place at the headquarters of the Permanent Mission of the DRC to the United Nations. UNHCR also expressed the wish that the issue of refugees be included on the agenda of the Congolese presidency of the Security Council in July 2026.
The DRC was invited to share its experience and good practices in the management and protection of refugees during this year’s commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the 1951 Convention relating to the Status of Refugees.
