On Tuesday, February 24, 2026, the United Nations General Assembly adopted the resolution entitled “Support for a Lasting Peace in Ukraine,” a text approved by 107 votes in favour, 12 against, and 51 abstentions. The Democratic Republic of the Congo, which took part in the eleventh emergency special session held at the ministerial level at the request of Latvia and Ukraine, voted in favour of this resolution, thereby reaffirming its steadfast commitment to the fundamental principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations.

Through this vote, the DRC underscores that respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of States is a cardinal principle of international law, which must prevail in all regions of the world, including Africa. It also stresses that these principles must be applied equally and consistently to all international conflicts, without exception or selectivity.

Lastly, the DRC recalls that there can be no lasting military solution to a conflict of this nature and reiterates its commitment to the peaceful settlement of disputes through dialogue, negotiation, and diplomatic channels, in accordance with the Charter of the United Nations and international law.
