New York, May 14, 2026 — The Permanent Representative of the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the United Nations, Ambassador Zénon Mukongo Ngay, met on Thursday in New York with Mr. François Moreillon, Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as part of his tour marking the end of his mission.

The meeting provided an opportunity to review the progress made by the ICRC in the DRC, as well as the actions taken to support populations affected by conflict. Among other things, Mr. Moreillon commended the support provided by the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo during a recent humanitarian assistance mission led by the ICRC in the town of Mikenge-Kipupu, in the Mwenga territory of South Kivu.

The discussions also focused on the Roundtable on the Protection of Essential Services in Conflict Contexts, organized in February 2026 in Kinshasa with the European Union and the ICRC. On that occasion, the Congolese government reaffirmed its commitment to international humanitarian law and to safe, rapid, and non-discriminatory access to essential services.

Ambassador Zénon Mukongo Ngay commended the ICRC’s commitment to the Congolese people, while Mr. François Moreillon reaffirmed his institution’s readiness to continue its humanitarian work in the Democratic Republic of the Congo
