On the occasion of the 10147th meeting of the Security Council, held on Thursday, 30 April 2026, and devoted to non-proliferation in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, the Democratic Republic of the Congo expressed its concern over the continued nuclear and ballistic activities in the Korean Peninsula.

Speaking following the briefing by Ms. Rosemary DiCarlo, Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs, the DRC recalled that these activities remain inconsistent with the relevant resolutions of the Security Council, particularly the regime established since the adoption of Resolution 1718 (2006).

The Democratic Republic of the Congo also noted that the recent ballistic missile launches, including those carried out in April 2026, as well as the technological developments observed, continue to fuel a climate of tension in the Korean Peninsula.

In light of these developments, the DRC underscored the need for increased vigilance by the international community, while stressing the importance of prioritizing channels of dialogue and diplomatic efforts with a view to preserving international peace and security.

The statement of the Democratic Republic of the Congo was delivered by Ambassador Zénon Mukongo Ngay, Permanent Representative of the DRC to the United Nations.
